Committees schedule events

October
The union's Latino Heritage Committee invites the DC 37 family to continue celebrating Latino Heritage Month at union headquarters as Local 420 hosts a special program at 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4.

Other events include Local 372's Latino Heritage celebration on Friday, Oct. 11 at 6 p.m., and the Committee's finale celebration, cosponsored with Local 1549 Friday, Oct. 18 at 6 p.m.

Local 983 will host its first Latino Heritage program, "Labor and Politics", Thursday, Oct. 24; dinner will be at 6 p.m. with keynote speaker Freddie Ferrer, followed by dancing until 11 p.m.

The DC 37 Housing Committee will hold an Affordable Mortgage Seminar, cosponsored by JP Morgan Chase, Wednesday, Oct. 16 from 6 to 8 p.m. To attend, you must register by calling (212) 815-1814. For information on the Tenants Rights Workshop, see below.

The committee would also like to remind union members to contribute to the upcoming Holiday Giving drive, which helps DC 37 families in need who have been identified through social workers at MELS and PSU. Please call Committee Chair Barry Jamison at (212) 815-7666 for more details.

The union's Italian Heritage Committee invites all DC 37 members to join their kickoff celebration of Italian Heritage Month Oct. 1 at 6:00 p.m. in the lobby, where a photo exhibit about "Italians in Labor" will be on display.

The annual Italian Heritage dinner-dance will be held on Saturday, Oct. 19 at Russo's on the Bay. For more information and to purchase tickets, please call Committee Chair Michael DeMarco at (212) 815-1023.

DC 37's Health & Nutrition Committee reminds union members to save Sunday, Oct. 20 for the annual "Making Strides Against Breast Cancer" walk in Central Park, to raise research money for the American Cancer Society (see below).

The Civil Service Committee invites everyone to celebrate Civil Service Month with them on Wednesday, Oct. 30 at 6 p.m. For more information, please call Co-Chair Ed Hysyk at (212) 815-2627.

The Latino Heritage Committee invites all to celebrate Puerto Rican Heritage Week Nov. 18- 22.

The opening ceremony and celebration starts at 6 p.m. Monday, Nov. 18 at union headquarters.
