AFSCME Local 2054 under administratorship

After discovering financial irregularities, DC 37’s parent union, AFSCME, placed New York City College Assistants Local 2054 under administratorship in September.

The American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees imposed the administratorship after Local 2054 officials failed to respond to a July 24 AFSCME audit report that noted serious concerns about financial reporting, dissipation of union funds and procedural irregularities.

DC 37 Executive Director Lillian Roberts announced the action to the DC 37 Executive Board Sept. 9 and introduced AFSCME New York Area Director Jim Cullen as the administrator for the local. DC 37 White Collar Division Assistant Director Chris Wilgenkamp is deputy administrator.

“We will be working on behalf of the membership to straighten out the local’s problems,” Cullen told the board.

The Local 2054 executive board suspended President Colleen Carew-Rogers on Sept. 1, which it had the power to do under the AFSCME Constitution.
