October is Civil Service Month and the DC 37 Civil Service Committee is hosting a discussion of the attacks on the system at its Civil Service Roundtable, Oct. 27 at 6 p.m. For more information, call Committee Chair Faye Moore at 212-598-7056.

The DC 37 Black History Committee is holding a masquerade party Oct. 29 from 6 p.m. to midnight with DJ Tam Jams, karaoke and a best costume contest. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door, and set-ups are $5; all proceeds will go toward 2011 Black History Month events. For more information, call Committee Chair Deborah A. The District Council 37 Women's Committee invites all union members to its Women's Leadership Café on Saturday, Nov. 13, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The program will help activists find their voices as leaders, develop skills, figure out the politics and set their own agendas.

To volunteer to be trained as a Table Facilitator at the café, check the box on the coupon on page 29 or call 212-815-7672 before Monday, Nov. 8.

DC 37 local leaders and staff will be featured on panels at Pride and Solidarity in Action, the annual conference of the Empire State Pride Agenda's labor outreach program.

Local 375 Political Activities Chair Jeff Oshins and Local 1503 Shop Steward Kelly Canzoneri will explore the roles of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender activists in their unions and on LGBT issues. PEP Associate Editor Jane LaTour, author of the book "Sisters in the Brotherhoods," will discuss lesbians in nontraditional jobs, and the AFL-CIO constituent group Pride@Work will be represented.

The conference will be held from 2 to 7 p.m., Nov. 13, at the City University's Center for Worker Education, 19th floor, 25 W. 43rd St. (between 5th and 6th avenues). Puerto Rican Heritage Week begins Nov. 15, and the DC 37 Latino Heritage Committee will celebrate with a program at 6 p.m. Nov. 19 dedicated to the memory of nationalist leader Lolita Lebron, who died in August. Nov. 19 would have been her 91st birthday.
