SAVE JOBS
Volunteer on Election Day, Nov. 2

Statewide, New York primary voters overwhelmingly supported U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand in her first election bid since she replaced Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Dems need every vote Nov. 2

The primary winners will be on the ballot Nov. 2 in an election that is vital to all working Americans. New Yorkers will select a new governor and state lawmakers as voters nationwide choose between Democratic efforts to repair the economy and the Republican politics that threw millions out of their jobs and homes. All 435 members of the House of Representatives and 37 U.S. Senators are up for election in November.

"Some people only come out for the big elections, but I believe every vote counts," said Andrea Bailey, a Local 1549 member who volunteered in Brooklyn. This year's vote is doubly important because elected state political leaders will soon redraw congressional districts for the next decade based on this year's
U.S. Census.

As Americans head for the polls, some of the top issues on their minds are the economy and job creation, whether to continue the Bush-era tax cuts for the rich, the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, U.S. relations with Iran and Pakistan, gay marriage and immigration policy.

The attention-grabbing ultra-conservative Tea Partiers appear to be driving the Republican agenda of taking control of Congress and blocking President Obama's initiatives, repealing Obama's historic health-care reform, slashing Medicaid and crimping the modest pensions and benefits of public employees.
