UNION SCRAPBOOK
A baseball barbecue at Met Hospital

A baseball-themed barbecue Aug. 30 helped Health and Hospitals Corp. managers thank dozens of Metropolitan Hospital Center workers for all they do to make the Manhattan health-care facility run.

Hospital workers in various unions, including DC 37 Locals 371, 420, 768, 924, 983, 1549 and others, as well as the New York State Nurses Association, sported their favorite team jerseys at the annual picnic on East 99th Street near the East River.

Hospital managers turned grill masters and served up burgers, hot dogs, and other barbecued delights. Dr. Leonard Davidman, president of NYC Psychologists Local 1189, and Rabbi Isaac Mann of Local 299 served tasty edibles for staffers with dietary restrictions at the kosher and halal tables.

Workers shot hoops and took home gifts of stress-relief balls and baseball caps. Relaxed and well fed, the Metropolitan staffers also enjoyed an ever popular summertime treat - ice cream from a Mister Softee truck that party planners hired for the day. The union's Labor Caucus and the Labor-Management Committee organized the event.

"Events like this help build morale and promote cooperation between the union and hospital management," said DC 37 Director of Field Operations Barbara Ingram-Edmonds.
