DC 37 honors 9/11 fallen heroes in ceremony

On Sept. 11, DC 37 commemorated the anniversary of tragic events of the attack on the World Trade Center by honoring the dedicated union members who lost their lives on that morning and subsequently with a brief ceremony in front of union headquarters.

Local presidents and union staff gathered with DC 37 Executive Director Lillian Roberts in front of a memorial wreath.

"On this beautiful morning, reminiscent of the tragic day of September 11, 2001, we come together to honor our members, the everyday heroes whose lives were cut short by the terrible acts of evil and hatred," she said. Roberts then read the names of the four members who died on that day - Father Mychal F. Judge, Local 299, Chet Louie, Local 2021, Carlos Lillo, Local 2507, and Ricardo Quinn, Local 3621 - and the six other members who passed away afterwards, Brian Ellicott, Local 3621, Timmy Keleher, Local 2507, John McFarlane, Local 2507, Anthony Ficara, Local 2507, Glenford Pennington, Local 1087, and Vito Valente, Local 372.

"We come together as a union family to provide the strength, dignity, respect, grace, love and compassion for the families and the over three thousand individuals who lost their lives on this tragic day," Roberts said. She then closed the ceremony with a moment of silence.
