Members get ready for retirement

For those members getting ready for retirement, DC 37 offered three pre-retirement seminars at union headquarters organized by the DC 37 Health and Security Plan. The first session on Sept. 14 covered legal issues and deferred compensation. The second session on Sept. 19 focused on applying for Social Security and the last session on Oct. 6 dealt with health insurance, union benefits, the pension and the Retirees Association of DC 37.

All of the participants got a package of articles listing available resources and tips for members once they retire. Members were encouraged to set up meetings with the Health and Pension Services Unit for pension counseling and to discuss benefits. The unit can also give you an estimate of your pension. The Municipal Employees Legal Services (MELS) is also available to help in preparing wills and health care proxies.
