Nominations in November for DC 37s four top
officers and 25 vice presidents
Over the next three months, the District Council 37 delegates
will play one of their most important roles in governing the union
electing the four top officers and the 25 vice presidents who comprise
the Executive Board.
At their Nov. 25 meeting, the Council delegates will nominate candidates
for president, secretary, treasurer, executive director and the vice presidents.
At this meeting, delegates from the five locals which each represent at
least 5 percent of DC 37s total membership will nominate and elect
their locals DC 37 vice president. Only delegates from each 5-percent
local can nominate and vote for their locals DC 37 vice president.
The 5-percent locals are Social Service Employees Union Local 371, Department
of Education Employees Local 372, Civil Service Technical Guild Local
375, Municipal Hospital Employees Union Local 420 and Clerical-Administrative
Employees Local 1549.
Only delegates from the 51 non-5-percent locals may nominate candidates
for the other 20 Executive Board positions. Any delegate may nominate
candidates for the top officer positions.
At the Jan. 27, 2004, Delegates Council, any candidates without opposition
will be declared elected and the delegates will vote on the remaining
positions. All delegates can vote on the top officers, while only delegates
from the non-5-percent locals may vote on the remaining Executive Board
positions. Runoffs will be held if necessary, and the officers elected
in November and January will be installed.
