Nominations in November for DC 37’s four top officers and 25 vice presidents

Over the next three months, the District Council 37 delegates will play one of their most important roles in governing the union — electing the four top officers and the 25 vice presidents who comprise the Executive Board.

At their Nov. 25 meeting, the Council delegates will nominate candidates for president, secretary, treasurer, executive director and the vice presidents.

At this meeting, delegates from the five locals which each represent at least 5 percent of DC 37’s total membership will nominate and elect their local’s DC 37 vice president. Only delegates from each 5-percent local can nominate and vote for their local’s DC 37 vice president.

The 5-percent locals are Social Service Employees Union Local 371, Department of Education Employees Local 372, Civil Service Technical Guild Local 375, Municipal Hospital Employees Union Local 420 and Clerical-Administrative Employees Local 1549.

Only delegates from the 51 non-5-percent locals may nominate candidates for the other 20 Executive Board positions. Any delegate may nominate candidates for the top officer positions.

At the Jan. 27, 2004, Delegates Council, any candidates without opposition will be declared elected and the delegates will vote on the remaining positions. All delegates can vote on the top officers, while only delegates from the non-5-percent locals may vote on the remaining Executive Board positions. Runoffs will be held if necessary, and the officers elected in November and January will be installed.
