DC 37 wins environmental
award DC 37 was recently honored for protecting the
environment by encouraging union employees to use mass transit. As a large employer
with a high rate of employee participation in commuter benefit programs, the union
received the 2007 Outstanding Achievement Award from the New York Metropolitan
Transportation Council.
With an impressive 62 percent of the unions
1,000 employees currently enrolled, DC 37 is on the right track to making New
York City air a little easier to breathe, wrote the group. Purposely
focused on improving members lives on the job, DC 37 also looks out for
its own staff. Im very proud of this award, said DC 37
Executive Director Lillian Roberts. It says we are a good union, a good
employer and a good citizen of the city we love. Field Services Director
Barbara Edmonds accepted the award for the union at a ceremony held June 13.
DC
37 is diligent about letting workers know about TransitChek, the pre-tax benefit
that saves commuters using public transportation time and money. The benefit helps
reduce payroll taxes and improves employee morale and productivity, said
the Metropolitan Transportation Council. Combined, the programs of the award winners
help eliminate more than 60,000 car trips and over 1 million vehicle miles traveled
on regional roadways each week.
DC 37 also keeps its 121,000 members informed
about pre-tax benefits that save them money and encourage the use of public transportation
(see 'You can
save taxes on every subway ride'). | |
