RIPs on for 1,200 in Local 1549

Eligible Police Communications Technicians and Supervising PCTs will soon receive contractual Recurring Increment Payments, which are due Nov. 14 and will be retroactive to March 2.

Approximately 1,200 PCTs and SPCTs are eligible for the RIP, which is paid in addition to the contract’s longevity increment. The amount of the RIP is based on an employee’s years of service. For example, a veteran with over 18 years can receive a total RIP of $3,168.

Only full-time per annum and full-time per diem employees in the two titles are eligible to receive the RIP. The RIP will become part of the employees’ base pay for pension calculations after they have received it for two years.

“When I became president in 2001, I made a commitment to have all titles that we represent get the RIP money,” said Local 1549 President Eddie Rodriguez. “Now it’s going to the PCTs and SPCTs. In 2003, when Alma Roper was chapter chair, I promised that they would be next. They work hard and they deserve it,” he said. “As president of Local 1549, I will continue to fight for the members of the PCT/SPCT chapter, who serve with distinction in a challenging emergency job.”

“This comes in the midst of a string of victories for the PCT/SPCT chapter,” said Assistant Clerical Division Director Eddie Gates. “While we are still addressing other issues, this shows that even in the midst of a challenging time, the union can win gains for the members.” Clerical Division Director Ronnie Harris pointed out that the RIP was a joint effort between the Clerical Division and Local 1549.
