Guille Mejia to key federal team

In September, Principal Program Coordinator Guille Mejia of DC 37's Safety and Health Dept. was named to an important government committee that will help determine whether the new 9/11 Health and Compensation Act covers cancer.

"It's an honor to be appointed," Mejia said of her position on the World Trade Center Health Program Scientific/Technical Committee of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. "I look forward to working with the other committee members to address the needs of the WTC responder community."

The committee will review scientific and medical evidence and make recommendations to 9/11 Health Program Administrator Dr. John Howard, on WTC Health program eligibility criteria and health conditions.

The committee begins its work on Nov. 8 with a meeting, followed by two days of hearings on Nov. 9 and 10 to take testimony. This evidence will aid in the group's deliberations on providing coverage for 9/11-related health conditions such as cancer that are not currently covered by the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act.
