Health plan reopener in November

If you don't like your health-care plan, you can switch into a different one during November.

Every year, city employees are permitted to change their plan during a month-long transfer period. This year, the "reopener" is from Nov. 1 to Nov. 30, with enrollment effective in the first payroll period of 2012.

Retirees are only allowed to switch plans in even-numbered years, so they cannot change plans this year, unless they exercise their once-in-a-lifetime exception to that rule.
