City extends retirees’ health plan transfer period through January 31

The city is extending the period for DC 37 retirees to change their health care coverage.

Retirees now have until the end of January to choose a new plan. The previous deadline was Nov. 17.

“Many of our members have been calling our office because they are worried about their health care coverage and feel they need more information to make a decision about enrolling in a new plan,” said Stuart Leibowitz, president of the Retirees Association of DC 37.

“This situation has been compounded by the chaos following the World Trade Center attack,” Leibowitz said. “Extending the enrollment period is a positive step.”

For more information

Retirees may contact the city’s Health Benefits Program at the New York City Office of Labor Relations for more information by calling (212) 513-0470.

The 2001 “Summary Program Description” booklet, also available, describes the health plans.

Or visit the city’s Web site at www.NYC.gov and select “City Services and Agencies” and then “Office of Labor Relations.”
