Civil Service Committee members praise Lillian Roberts at October meeting

DC 37 Civil Service Committee Chair John Townsend brought DC 37 Executive Director Lillian Roberts to the group’s October meeting to honor her before the entire committee as “the one union leader who has devoted decades toward defending the principles of the merit system.”

He also praised her current thrust toward improving the city’s implementation of the one-in-three rule to “protect the rights of union members to be judged impartially in the promotion process.”

Roberts thanked the committee for its strong support of her efforts to “protect the civil service system as a path into the middle class for those who were once excluded,” and commended the work of Townsend as chair.

Townsend also thanked Associate Research and Negotiations Director Evelyn Seinfeld and Senior Assistant General Counsel Robin Roach for their longstanding assistance to the committee.
