Union nurses study
their role in the labor movement United
Federation of Nurses and Epidemiologists Local 436 held an all-day orientation
meeting Oct. 13 at the Museum of the City of New York. Some 55 members participated. We
have not had a membership orientation in a while, and I felt it was important
so that all members, not just new ones, could learn about the union and how to
get involved, said Local 436 President Judith Arroyo.
DC 37 Executive
Director Lillian Roberts spoke to the members about her plans to push for day
care centers in every borough like the one that was recently opened at Bellevue
Hospital Center in Manhattan.
Larry Kelly, assistant director of the DC
37 Education Fund, gave a brief overview of the history of the union and DC 37s
parent union, the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees.
Cynthia Chin-Marshall, administrator of the DC 37 Health and Security
Plan, reviewed pension and benefit issues. | |
