Subway ads win top prize

The DC 37 subway ad campaign, “Cut Private Contractors, Not Public Services,” has won a platinum award in a 2009 competition held by the Association of Marketing and Communications Professionals. Platinum is the top honor in this competition and this is the first time the union has won it.

In this year’s MarCom competition, there were almost 5,000 entrants. The DC 37 ad campaign was among the approximately 18 percent of entries — about 900 — that received the platinum award that goes to entries judged to be among the most outstanding in the competition.

MarCom Awards is an international creative competition that recognizes outstanding achievement by marketing and communication professionals. The competition has grown to perhaps the largest of its kind in the world.

Platinum winners are recognized for their excellence in quality and creativity. After the platinum awards, another 18 percent of entries win gold awards, and 10 percent get honorable mention.

In addition to its awards programs, the AMCP provides grants for pro bono public service advertising.
