Deadline Dec. 31 for AFSCME Scholarships

Each year the Family Scholarship Program of DC 37's parent union, AFSCME, provides ten $2,000 scholarships to high school seniors. The awards may be used for any field of study and will be renewed for $2,000 each year for up to four years if the student stays in a full-time course of study.

To be eligible, a student must:

  • be a graduating high school senior;
  • be a daughter, son or financially dependent grandchild of an active or retired, full dues-paying AFSCME member;
  • be an applicant to an accredited college or university and sub-sequently accepted as a full-time student in a four year degree program.
Applications must include an essay of up to 1,000 words on "What AFSCME has meant to our family."

Members and retirees can get applications at www.afscme.org\family or by calling 202-429-5066. Complete applications, with all support documentation (essay, transcripts, letters of recommendations, SAT or ACT scores, proof of AFSCME membership, etc.), should be mailed to AFSCME Family Scholarship Program, 1625 L Street, N.W., Washington, DC 20036.

Applications must be postmarked by Dec. 31, 2010. Members with questions should call 202-429-5066.
