Health & Security veterans retire
Two longtime managers of the DC 37 Health and Security Plan received warm send-offs from their colleagues recently at festive retirement parties at union headquarters.
Sandra La'Verne Griffin, manager of the plan's prescription drug unit, retired after 41 years, and Jimmy Barhold, manager of the disability, death and annuity units, retired after 32 years.
Co-workers created humorous PowerPoint presentations for the retiring employees at their parties.
Administrator Cynthia Chin-Marshall described Griffin as the plan's "drug czar" at her retirement party on Oct. 7, and she mentioned Griffin's interest in natural treatments for illness and her practice of sharing articles on health subjects with others. The fund's acting counsel, Audrey Browne, presented a poem titled "Ode to La'Verne."
At Barhold's party, Chin-Marshall noted that he had overseen the multimillion-dollar annuity fund program since its inception in 2000, and she expressed appreciation for his many years of conscientious service.
At both parties, co-workers, local union leaders and DC 37 officials offered gifts, kind words and poignant reminiscences about the two managers.
