Local 375 celebrates Eid al-Fitr, important Islamic holiday

Civil Service Technical Guild Local 375 celebrated the Islamic holiday Eid al-Fitr at its Sept. 17 membership meeting at DC 37. Eid marks the conclusion of 29 to 30 days of dawn-to-sunset fasting during the month of Ramadan.

The evening's keynote speaker was former City Council member Robert Jackson, who worked with a coalition to have Eid and another Muslim holiday recognized by the public schools. So far, the Dept. of Education has not included the holidays in the school calendar.

The Local 375 Eid Committee, chaired by Sara Soliman and advised by Local 375 Secretary Ahmed Shakir, also honored Iman Mohammad Qatanani at the event.
