AFSCME, DC 37's parent national union, offers these scholarships for members and their children or dependents: The AFSCME Family Scholarship of $2,000 renewable for up to four years is granted to 10 high school seniors whose parent or legal guardian is an AFSCME member. Application deadline is Dec. 31. The Gerald W. McEntee Scholarship is a one-time award of $5,000 granted to the member who best exemplifies the former union president's commitment to strengthening the union through organizing, building political power for working families, defending workers' rights, and supporting public services. AFSCME partners with the Thurgood Marshall College Fund in its Union Scholars Program to provide educational opportunities and scholarships to talented students of color attending historically black and other colleges and universities to help develop young leaders dedicated to making a difference in American society. Eligible are second-semester sophomores or juniors with a minimum GPA of 2.5 majoring in, History, Political Science, Psychology, Public Policy, Social Work, Sociology or American, Ethnic, Labor or Women's Studies or other fields.
