Union calls for Affordable Care Act outreach

As the second open-enrollment period for health coverage under the Affordable Care Act began, DC 37 and the People’s Budget Coalition for Public Health, an alliance of over 15 community and labor organizations, pressed the City Council to create a $5 million initiative to help enroll uninsured New Yorkers in the federal health insurance program.

“We support Access Health NYC to connect all New Yorkers to health care,” said DC 37 Director of Field Services Barbara Edmonds on Oct. 23 at the coalition’s news conference.

Access Health NYC, an outreach initiative to the uninsured, would provide funding for community-based organizations to help educate and enroll people in need of coverage at the public hospitals and clinics, MetroPlus and SNAP enrollment centers where DC 37 members work.
