Computer local awards five college scholarships to members children

Electronic Data Processing Employees Local 2627 recently awarded college scholarships to five children of members.

The local held a drawing for the $2,000 scholarships at its September membership meeting.

The Executive Board awarded the scholarships at its Oct. 7 meeting, which the winners and parents attended.

The scholarship winners are Nicole Scala, Andre Kopacki, Wilson Lai, Jesslyn Reyes and Amadu Durham. Their parents, respectively, are Frederick Scala, Krystyna Kopacki, Bin Trinh, Frances Reyes and Frank Durham.

"This is the second year we have awarded scholarships and we hope to help even more students next year," Local 2627 President Robert Ajaye said. To qualify for the scholarships, students must have completed a year in school and maintained a grade point average of at least 2.5.

Sr. Trustee Artie Kellam and Trustees Mohammad Chowdury, Kalpesh Patel and Portia Perkins coordinate the scholarship program.
