Tech Guild scholarships go to 15 youths

Civil Service Technical Guild Local 375 awarded college scholarships to 15 children of members.

The local's scholarship committee, chaired by Naz Anderville, held an awards ceremony with parents Sept. 17 at the local's membership meeting.

"We are proud to recognize the achievements of our children and happy to help them out with their education expenses," said Local 375 President Claude Fort.

The winners of the scholarships, which are funded by Local 375 and range from $500 to $1,500, are Caroline Banks, Hassan Alam, Anne Marie Ardito, Louis G. Alvarez, Samuel Thomas, Alex Y. Yung, Amani Choudhury, Nitasha Siddiqi, Purvi Patel, Eghosa Eke, Danielle Killwey, Melissa Ruiz-Vera and Abanoub Boulis. Their parents, respectively, are Garry Banks, Syed Alam, Aldo Ardito, Zulay Alvarez, Mini Thomas, Wai Wah Yung, Jafrul Choudhury, Muhammad Siddiqui, Chetan Patel, Gladys Eke, Philip Killwey, Alberto Ruiz-Gonzalez and Mirvat Samaan.

The winners also included two students who received scholarships sponsored by Local 375 and two foundations administered by Local 375 Secretary Ahmed Shakir, the administrator of the local's scholarship committee.

Kyan Sadeghilari, the son of member Michael Sadeghilari, received a $500 scholarship from the Shirin Shakir Foundation, which is named for Shakir's daughter, who died in a white-water rafting accident in Peru. Adaugo Ezike, the son of member George Ezike, received a $500 scholarship from a foundation named for deceased member Morris C. Harris.
