Labor-faith activists eye a busy 2016
More community outreach is on the agenda for the DC 37/AFSCME Labor, Faith Outreach Program for 2016. In 2015, activists collaborated with District Council 1707, the United Federation of Teachers and Vincent Ferguson, president of Body Sculpt of New York, to sponsor a youth sports expo in the Bronx. They also gave away hundreds of books during a book fair in Harlem.
"We expect to be doing even more for 2016," said Rabbi Michael Feinberg, executive director of the Greater NY Labor Religion Coalition, during the group's Nov. 9 meeting. Also attending the meeting was Local 1501 President Jeremy Sanders, Lester Crockett, president of CSEA Local 100; Pastor Antonio Jordan, a member of Local 372; and Maf Misbah Uddin, DC 37 treasurer and Local 1407 president.
