DC 37's presence in social media deserves a "like"

By MIKE LEE

In an ever-changing world where information is vitally important to the labor movement, social media is a major means of communication, and Facebook is one of the most popular and effective tools to get the union's message out online.

Facebook's innovative programming and ease of use make this social media platform a vehicle to quickly communicate about the important issues of concern to us.

DC 37 has a strong and growing presence on Facebook, with its page devoted to breaking news, opinion, and informative links for our readers, along with alerts about upcoming events and campaigns.

Our Facebook page is also linked to our website at www.dc37.net and to our new blog, which we plan to launch this month.

Access to the DC 37 Facebook page is easy. If you are a Facebook user, look for District Council 37 and like the page.

We encourage participating on our Facebook page, where there is a thriving exchange of ideas. It's union democracy at work.

You may acknowledge postings with a "like" and make comments. You can also share, sending out the word to your union sisters and brothers and to others, informing them, about who we are and what we stand for. By offering the union a means of spreading our message, Facebook will help build a strong union for the tough days ahead.

With your "likes," the interest the District Council 37 page receives expands our audience. That exposes people outside the union to the important issues we are fighting for, such as protecting our collective bargaining rights from right-wing attacks, supporting the $15 minimum wage, and promoting equal pay for women, while also calling attention to members who make the city work.
