Hearings scheduled on “one-member, one vote” amendment

The District Council 37 Laws and Rules Committee has scheduled open hearings on a proposed amendment to the DC 37 Constitution.

The amendment, proposed at the October 25 meeting of the delegates Council, calls for direct membership election of the union’s officers and vice presidents. If the constitutional change is adopted, mailed-ballot membership voting would replace the current method of electing the officers and vice presidents by votes of the delegates.

According to the constitution, a two-thirds vote of the delegates is required to adopt an amendment.
The hearings are scheduled for 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the sixth floor board room on two Wednesdays, Jan. 26 and Feb. 2.

“The hearings are open to all members of DC 37 who want to offer their input on this important subject,” said Laws and Rules Committee Chair Robert Schirmer. Mr. Schirmer is the president of Metropolitan Museum of Art Local 1503.

Committee members are local officers David Moog (Local 1757), secretary, and Darryl Ramsey (Local 768), John Socha (Local 1321), Santos Crespo (Local 372), Mickey McFarland (Local 1157) and Charles Farison (Local 1797).
