DC 37 Committee celebrates Caribbean pride

Celebrating Caribbean pride at the second annual DC 37 Caribbean Heritage gala on Saturday, Oct. 28 at Brooklyn’s Grand Prospect Hall are Caribbean Heritage Committee members and Committee Chair Carmen Charles (top center at podium). This event, and the annual jump-up in August, help raise funds to support DC 37’s participation in the annual Caribbean Labor Day Parade, the colorful, late summer procession of floats, bands and more with spectators of all ages that wends along Brooklyn’s Eastern Parkway.

The union’s Caribbean Heritage Committee, formed in 2004, honors the culture and contributions made by immigrants from Jamaica, Trinidad, Barbados, St. Vincent, Grenada, Guyana and nations throughout the Caribbean.

“Our goal is to educate and promote diversity of the Caribbean people,” said Charles, who is also the president of Municipal Hospital Employees Union Local 420.
