Delegates to elect executive director and VPs on Jan. 26

The District Council 37 delegates will vote Jan. 26 to elect the union’s executive director and 20 vice presidents on the Executive Board. DC 37 Executive Director Lillian Roberts, the union’s leader for the past eight years, and Local 375 President Claude Fort are running for executive director, and 35 members of DC 37 locals are competing for the board positions.

At the Nov. 24 Delegates Council, three top executive officers were nominated for re-election without opposition: DC 37 President Veronica Montgomery-Costa, the president of Board of Education Employees Local 372; Secretary Cliff Koppelman, the president of Court, County and Dept. of Probation Employees Local 1070; and Treasurer Maf Misbah Uddin, the president of Accountants, Statisticians and Actuaries Local 1407.

The delegates from the five locals that each represent more than 5 percent of DC 37’s membership nominated and elected their DC 37 vice presidents at the Nov. 24 meeting. Chosen were Social Services Employees Union Local 371 President Faye Moore, Local 372 Executive Vice President Santos Crespo, Civil Service Technical Guild Local 375 2nd Vice President Michelle Keller, Municipal Hospital Employees Union Local 420 President Carmen Charles and Clerical-Administrative Employees Local 1549 President Eddie Rodriguez.

The DC 37 Election Committee and the American Arbitration Association oversaw the proceedings. Deborah Lane of Local 384 chairs the committee, which includes Joe Puleo of Local 983 and Paulette Sher of Local 2021.

At the Jan. 26 meeting, delegates from all locals will be eligible to vote for executive director. The 20 Executive Board vice presidents who represent the 51 locals that each include less than 5 percent of DC 37’s membership will be elected by the delegates from those locals.
