Employee Press Delegates to elect
executive director and VPs on Jan. 26 The
District Council 37 delegates will vote Jan. 26 to elect the unions executive
director and 20 vice presidents on the Executive Board. DC 37 Executive Director
Lillian Roberts, the unions leader for the past eight years, and Local 375
President Claude Fort are running for executive director, and 35 members of DC
37 locals are competing for the board positions.
At the Nov. 24 Delegates
Council, three top executive officers were nominated for re-election without opposition:
DC 37 President Veronica Montgomery-Costa, the president of Board of Education
Employees Local 372; Secretary Cliff Koppelman, the president of Court, County
and Dept. of Probation Employees Local 1070; and Treasurer Maf Misbah Uddin, the
president of Accountants, Statisticians and Actuaries Local 1407.
The delegates
from the five locals that each represent more than 5 percent of DC 37s membership
nominated and elected their DC 37 vice presidents at the Nov. 24 meeting. Chosen
were Social Services Employees Union Local 371 President Faye Moore, Local 372
Executive Vice President Santos Crespo, Civil Service Technical Guild Local 375
2nd Vice President Michelle Keller, Municipal Hospital Employees Union Local 420
President Carmen Charles and Clerical-Administrative Employees Local 1549 President
Eddie Rodriguez.
The DC 37 Election Committee and the American Arbitration
Association oversaw the proceedings. Deborah Lane of Local 384 chairs the committee,
which includes Joe Puleo of Local 983 and Paulette Sher of Local 2021.
At
the Jan. 26 meeting, delegates from all locals will be eligible to vote for executive
director. The 20 Executive Board vice presidents who represent the 51 locals that
each include less than 5 percent of DC 37s membership will be elected by
the delegates from those locals.
The delegates meeting is the highest governing
body of DC 37, which represents 125,000 employees and 50,000 retirees.
