You must take GED test in person, not online

The District Council 37 Education Fund offers free classes to help members who want to take the General Education Development test.

The GED test measures skills and knowledge comparable to a high school course of study.

The GED test can only be taken in person, not online, and only at an official GED testing center.

A GED obtained through any services that offer it through other means or that are not affiliated with the General Educational Development Testing Service will not be accepted by employers, colleges and universities or the military.

In 2012, a new series of GED tests will be released for use. As completion standards change for high school students, the GED exam is also reviewed to reflect the current requirement for high school graduates.

The test covers five subject areas:Mathematics, Language Arts, Reading, Science and Social Studies.

By Dec. 31, 2011, students must have taken and received a minimum score on each of the five subject areas and have earned the required minimum average score, or they will need to take the entire series, all five tests, over again.

Members who want to receive a program application or inquire about the union's free test preparation should call 212-815-1700 or contact the Ed Fund by e-mail at EdFund@dc37.net.
