Coming back
Ed Fund and college classes in January

DC 37 Headquaters in lower Manhattan, where the union's Education Fund offered many courses, was closed for repairs after Hurricane Sandy flooded and severely damaged the building.

Repairs will continue for months until the building is safe, but the Fund is continuing to provide educational opportunities for members by offering courses in classrooms citywide. (See list of locations and courses below.) Starting in late January 2013, the Fund's winter semester will include courses such as general math, accounting and college prep.

To register, students can download applications from the union's website, www.dc37.net.

"It's been a challenge for everyone, students and staff, but we're determined to provide our members with the best educational opportunities available," said Ed Fund Director Dr. Barbara Kairson.

Plans are also being made to reschedule shop steward classes for the spring. In mid-December, the Fund was unable to process Tuition Reimbursement payments. Members should mail applications and accompanying documents to DC 37 Education Fund, 125 Barclay St., Room 814, New York, NY 10007.

Spring semester begins Jan. 22 at union college

The DC 37 Campus of the College of New Rochelle will begin its spring semester Jan. 22. After Sandy, CNR quickly found new locations for classes at campuses in Brooklyn, Manhattan and the Bronx and successfully completed the fall semester. "Nothing is going to hold us back," said CNR's DC 37 Campus Director Stephen Greenfeld.

For the spring semester, the DC 37 campus of CNR will conduct some of its classes at St. John's University on Murray Street across from DC 37. CNR will hold an Open House for students on Saturday, Jan. 12, in Room 233 at St. John's. Information sessions for new students will be held every Monday starting Jan. 7 at 6 p.m. in Room 233 at St. John's.

Returning students can check for new spring courses on CNR's website. New students should speak with Shawyonia Pettigrew at the CNR administrative office (914-654-5522) to schedule their assessment placement test.

"We know how difficult it has been for everyone, but it's important that our students continue with their academic plans so they can graduate on time. Our staff is here to support them in any way we can," Greenfeld said.
