Crossing Guards ready for winter

School Crossing Guards Iris Pabon (left) and Maria Rodriguez were among the first members of Board of Education Employees Local 372 to receive their free winter jackets, donated by the Fairway Foundation. The dark blue jackets were distributed Dec. 22 at union headquarters to more than 500 members of the local.

"What a nice gesture," said Pabon, who has been on the job five years and came to pick up her coat after finishing her shift. "Winter is here so it's going to come in handy."

The local distributed the rest of the jackets during the Christmas week through Jan. 1. "Our members are out there in the cold weather with the children, so we really appreciate the jackets," said Local 372 President Shaun D. Francois I.
