37 Black History Month Calendar February 2009
The
District Council 37 Black History Committee invites all members and their families
to join in celebrating Black History Month in February 2009. This year the Committee
examines the theme, From King to Obama.
The cultural celebration
kicks off Monday Feb. 2 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Later in the month the
BHC will introduce a U.S. postage stamp honoring the Freedom Riders of the civil
rights era. The annual DC 37 Family Day, Sat., Feb. 7, focuses on fitness and
education with workshops, college prep and more. Registration starts at 9 a.m.
During the month union locals will host cultural events featuring live entertainment
and guest speakers, so check the calendar below. And Finale Night, Friday, Feb.
27 will celebrate the inauguration of U.S. President Barack Obama.
