join breast cancer walkathon Every October, a group of hardy perennials from
DC 37 locals braves the often harsh autumn weather and shows up in Central Park
to participate in the annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer
Walkathon sponsored by the American Cancer Society.
On Oct. 19, officers
and members of locals 372, 375, 420, 768, 924, 1070, and 1549 came out to raise
consciousness about the disease and to honor both survivors and victims.
Im
out here to show my support, said Local 1549 member John Hopgood. I
think its an important cause everyone should be out here!
As
always, Local 924 President Kyle Simmons participated, attired in a breast cancer
T-shirt. Its always important to come out, he said. If
you have a mother, a wife, a daughter, you should be here today.
Were
hopeful that in our lifetime we will conquer this dread disease,
said DC 37 Health and Nutrition Committee Chair Michelle Keller. Every time
we come a-marching, this is the prayer. | |
