37 staff mark career milestones District
Council 37 recognized the hard work and dedication of some 200 staff members Dec.
10 at its annual Employee Recognition ceremony.
There is a strong
sense of family here, a strong commitment to the council and dedication to the
labor movement, said Associate Director Oliver Gray, who with DC 37 officers
and officials distributed pins and plaques in recognition of employees achievements.
The
Employee Recognition Committee, chaired by Human Resources Director Amy Kadlub,
welcomed 29 new employees to the union and saluted the contributions of staffers
who reached career milestones in 2009.
Leading the honorees were five staff
members who completed 40 years of service to the unions membership
Sandra LaVerne Griffin, Deborah McCotter, Bill Schleicher, Barbara Snipes
and Jean Thoens and 21 who passed the 35-year mark. Another 18 employees
reached 30 years with the union, 16 marked 25 years on staff, and 23 made 20 years
of service. Additionally, eight marked their 15th year and 23 were honored for
reaching 10 years of service.
The event also honored 57 employees who had
perfect attendance in 2009 and seven staffers for their academic achievements
in 2009. By improving their education they have become fine examples for
all of us, said Maf Misbah Uddin, DC 37 treasurer and Local 1407 president.
The
way we band together in times of need and work to accomplish monumental goals
makes us proud to be part of this great union, Gray said.
