DC 37 staff mark career milestones

District Council 37 recognized the hard work and dedication of some 200 staff members Dec. 10 at its annual Employee Recognition ceremony.

“There is a strong sense of family here, a strong commitment to the council and dedication to the labor movement,” said Associate Director Oliver Gray, who with DC 37 officers and officials distributed pins and plaques in recognition of employees’ achievements.

The Employee Recognition Committee, chaired by Human Resources Director Amy Kadlub, welcomed 29 new employees to the union and saluted the contributions of staffers who reached career milestones in 2009.

Leading the honorees were five staff members who completed 40 years of service to the union’s membership — Sandra La’Verne Griffin, Deborah McCotter, Bill Schleicher, Barbara Snipes and Jean Thoens — and 21 who passed the 35-year mark. Another 18 employees reached 30 years with the union, 16 marked 25 years on staff, and 23 made 20 years of service. Additionally, eight marked their 15th year and 23 were honored for reaching 10 years of service.

The event also honored 57 employees who had perfect attendance in 2009 and seven staffers for their academic achievements in 2009. “By improving their education they have become fine examples for all of us,” said Maf Misbah Uddin, DC 37 treasurer and Local 1407 president.

“The way we band together in times of need and work to accomplish monumental goals makes us proud to be part of this great union,” Gray said.
