Hospital activists stepping up through training
To amp up the facilitators, facility chairs and co-chairs of the Health and Hospitals Corp. Labor Caucus, District Council 37 held a training session Dec. 10 that energized these leaders to combat HHC's "Road Ahead" plan to shrink health services and eliminate 4,000 jobs by 2014.
"We are stepping up our presence and efficacy as leaders on joint labor-management committees by training chairs and co-chairs to be equal with management and qualified to deal with quality-of-work-life issues," said Professional Division Director Nola Brooker, who led the session with Field Services Director Barbara Edmonds.
Participants in the labor caucus include DC 37 locals, the New York State Nurses Association, the Doctors Council, the Committee of Interns and Residents, skilled trades unions, Communications Workers Local 1180 and Service Employees Local 1199.
