A museum tribute to the Apollo Theater

Union members have a unique opportunity to enjoy the stories, photos and memorabilia collected over the past 90 years in the life of the Apollo Theater. These items, plus documentary films of performances, are included in an extensive museum exhibit now on view at the Museum of the City of New York.

The exhibition is titled: "Ain't Nothing Like the Real Thing: How the Apollo Theater Shaped American Entertainment." Among the items on display are: a trumpet from Miles Davis, a guitar from B. B. King, a dress from Bessie Smith, a cigarette case from Duke Ellington, a cape from James Brown, and tap shoes from both Sammy Davis Jr. and Savion Glover.

The exhibition runs until May 1 at the Museum of the City of New York, which is located on Fifth Ave. and 105th Street in Manhattan. The museum is open from Tuesday through Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The exhibit is free. If you wish to donate to the museum, a contribution of $6 is suggested.
