420 members contribute shoes for U.S. and island hurricane victims
Members
of Municipal Hospital Employees Union Local 420 recently came to the aid of hurricane
victims in U.S. cities and Caribbean nations.
The local joined New York
City Comptroller William C. Thompson Jr.s campaign to collect shoes for
the victims.
Union members came through and donated some 400 pairs, which
were presented to Thompson Jan. 14 at his Municipal Building office. Local 420
chapter leaders and activists throughout the Health and Hospitals Corp. collected
the contributions from members.
The neatly bagged shoes will be distributed
to people who were hit hard by the natural disasters in Texas, New Orleans, Haiti
and the Dominican Republic.
Were really proud of our members
from HHC who responded in such a big way to help their less fortunate brothers
and sisters during their time of need, said Local 420 President Carmen Charles. |
