Pride award goes to Judith Arroyo

United Federation of Nurses and Epidemiologists Local 436 president Judith Arroyo was honored Jan. 13 by Empire State Pride Agenda, a statewide advocacy group for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender civil rights.

Arroyo, who chairs LAGIC, DC 37’s Lesbian and Gay Issues Committee, received the Pride in Our Union Award at ESPA’s fifth annual Star Awards and Volunteer Recognition Party in Chelsea. The award is presented to people who have made a difference in the labor movement.

“It is a real honor for me to receive this award and to have the work of labor unions acknowledged by this important organization,” said Arroyo.

Arroyo’s award was presented by Jacob Lieberman, the director of Pride in Action, which organizes a broad spectrum of ESPA supporters in labor, business, religious and straight organizations as well as the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community.
