Lillian Roberts was elected Dec. 10 to the second-highest post of the Municipal
Labor Committee, the umbrella organization of municipal unions.
She received
the unanimous support of the municipal labor leaders to become the MLCs
co-chair.
United Federation of Teachers President Michael Mulgrew was elected
to Robertss previous position as MLC executive vice chair.
Harry
Nespoli of the sanitation workers union heads the MLC, which includes unions representing
more than 300,000 city workers. The MLC reaches agreements with the city on benefits

examining the waste in DOEs contracting out.
Its an honor
to have the backing of my peers for this new position, Roberts said. Its
also a testament to DC 37s leading role in providing a voice for municipal
employees in these tough times.
Three DC 37 leaders serve as vice
chairs of the MLC Steering Committee: DC 37 and Local 372 President Veronica Montgomery-Costa,
Treasurer Maf Misbah Uddin, who is president of Accountants, Actuaries and Statisticians
Local 1407, and Faye Moore, president of Social Service Employees Union Local
