Executive Board recommends Fidler

The DC 37 Executive Board voted unanimously Feb. 8 to recommend that the Delegates Council endorse City Council member Lew Fidler in the March 20 special election in Brooklyn's 27th State Senate District. The Board acted on the recommendation of the Screening Committee, which is made up of local presidents. Under DC 37's constitution, the Delegates make the final decision on political endorsements.

Fidler was elected to the City Council in 2002 from the 46th District. Last year the City Council elected him to its leadership team as assistant majority leader.

Education has always been an important issue for Fidler, who won extra funds for every school in his district and was responsible for restoring funds to the Summer Youth Employment Program.

Fidler helped thousands of New Yorkers stay in their homes during the mortgage crisis, worked with homeless youth and chaired the Youth Services Committee. He currently serves on the City Council committees on finance, education, veterans, housing and buildings and state and federal legislation.

The election will fill the seat vacated by Carl Kruger, who pleaded guilty to federal corruption charges and resigned in December.
