Getting out of debt

If you are being sued, if payday lenders or collectors are withdrawing funds from your bank account or emailing, calling or harassing you, or if you feel overwhelmed by debts, don't wait:

1. Call DC 37's Municipal Employees Legal Services at 212-815-1111. It's free for covered members of District Council 37.

2. Seek free one-on-one financial counseling at a New York City Financial Empowerment Center. Call 311 or visit www.nyc.gov/ProtectYourMoney.

3. Stay away from payday loans! They carry high interest rates and transaction fees and leave you trapped in a growing cycle of debt.
