Labor's voice at church
At the request of DC 37 retiree and activist Belinda Dixon, New York State AFL-CIO Pres. Mario Cilento spoke Sunday, Feb. 10, at the Fellowship Baptist Church on Staten Island. "Unions in New York and across the country have been at the forefront of the civil rights movement and every fight for social justice. We continue that tradition today in our fight for equality and opportunity for all," he told the congregation. "New York has the most diverse labor movement in this country. Our members represent every race, ethnicity, religion and background, That diversity is our greatest strength." DC 37 is working with Cilento and the New York City Central Labor Council on a faith, labor and community outreach program, said DC 37 Field Services Director Barbara Edmonds.
