Key senior staff hires to bring a new vision to DC 37

In a continued effort to strengthen the services provided to members, DC 37 recently made two new key staff hires.

Jahmila K. Joseph joins DC 37 as assistant associate director. An honors graduate from the Eugene Lang College/New School University, Joseph previously worked in labor as assistant director of political affairs for the Council of School Supervisors and Administrators, AFL-CIO. She went on to be deputy chief of staff in the New York City Public Advocate Office and most recently executive director of the Dept. of Education's City Office of Intergovernmental Affairs.

"My return to the labor movement is a true homecoming and I am honored to be joining the DC 37 family," Joseph said. "I look forward to working with the members and staff as we continue to make New York City the best it can be from the inside out."

Chris Policano returns to DC 37 as director of strategic initiatives after working with the union from 1999-2002. "It's an honor to be back at DC 37 at a crucial time in the life of the organization and the labor movement," said Policano, who worked for nearly six years as communications director for DC 37's national union, the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, in Washington, D.C. Policano's background includes working communications at the United Federation of Teachers and Phoenix House, and as a reporter for the New York Daily News and New York Post. "DC 37 has a proud past and I am here to help build for the future," Policano said.

"These appointments are an important step in the forward-looking transformation of our union to meet the challenges ahead," DC 37 Executive Director Henry Garrido said.
