Coordinating blood drives

Clerical Associate 3 Levada Rice is responsible for timekeeping and records management at the Dept. of Sanitation’s Central Repair Shop in Queens.

But the Local 1549 member’s contribution to the Sanitation Dept. extends much further than ensuring that its vehicle recordkeeping is accurate and up-to-date.

For the past two decades, Rice has coordinated the agency’s Employee Blood Program to encourage workers to give “the gift of life” by donating blood. In 2005, employees contributed 2,495 pints.

The New York Blood Center has recognized Rice for continuously increasing the agency’s donations.
