Women’s Committee Conference

An all-day conference on Saturday, April 28, will bring together DC 37 women from all divisions and locals to participate in the DC 37 Women’s Committee’s first event of its kind. The ambitious program includes panels and workshops on a wide range of topics — from health to housing to financial planning and more.

Invited guests include representatives from a range of agencies and service providers — including the union. Experts from the city Housing Authority will take part in a panel discussion on the Section 8 Housing Assistance Program. The Dept. of Health and Mental Health will share information on HPV — the Human Papillomavirus — a major cause of sexually-transmitted disease. Staff from DC 37’s Personal Service Unit will share information on the huge range of social services they offer union members.

The excitement of planning to set up a new, solo project in retirement appeals to many DC 37 women. One conference program will examine the opportunities for entrepreneurship and the requirements for setting up your own business venture.

The conference will provide expert information on many different aspects of union women’s lives — from resources for care givers and grandparents to budgeting and ways to deal with an often difficult school system.

The event will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Holistic health expert Queen Afua will be the keynote speaker at the luncheon.
