Summer camp registration

Parents and grandparents who are District Council 37 members may register their child(ren) ages 7 to 14 for summer sleep-away camp. Come to the DC 37 Education Fund, 125 Barclay St., Mondays through Thursdays until April 17. Registration will take place from noon to 2 p.m. in Room 814 and from 5 to 7 p.m. in Room 202. Most camp fees are based on a sliding scale. The average fee is $250 per week.

Please bring a copy of a recent pay stub and a photo ID. For more information, please call the Education Fund at 212-815-1700.

Special camp for special kids
The union camp program is now working with Camp Hidden Valley, a Fresh Air Fund camp designed to serve children with and without special needs. In Hidden Valley’s supportive environment, boys and girls from eight to 12, about half of them with disabilities, safely discover the outdoors.

Each child is encouraged to engage in recreational activities, learn to swim, catch fish, go on nature hikes and visit the model farm. Other activities include arts and crafts, dance, music, sign language and newspaper production.

All facilities are accessible, and children have an opportunity to learn about differences and similarities among their peers and gain a deeper understanding of cultural diversity. Counselors are carefully screened and trained to work with Hidden Valley campers.
