Special
camp for special kids The union camp program is now working with
Camp Hidden Valley, a Fresh Air Fund camp designed to serve children with and
without special needs. In Hidden Valleys supportive environment, boys and
girls from eight to 12, about half of them with disabilities, safely discover
the outdoors.
Each child is encouraged to engage in recreational activities,
learn to swim, catch fish, go on nature hikes and visit the model farm. Other
activities include arts and crafts, dance, music, sign language and newspaper
production.
All facilities are accessible, and children have an opportunity
to learn about differences and similarities among their peers and gain a deeper
understanding of cultural diversity. Counselors are carefully screened and trained
to work with Hidden Valley campers.
