Union Chaplains meet with lawmakers
Chaplains represented by Local 299 explored political and
workplace issues at a breakfast meeting held Jan. 28 at union headquarters.
Assistant Commissioner of Corrections Imam Umar Jalil was the keynote
speaker, and guests included Public Advocate Bill de Blasio, state Assembly
member Keith L. Wright, state Sen. Ruth Hassell-Thompson and DC 37 President
Veronica Montgomery-Costa.
Local 299 President Jackie Rowe-Adams and Vice President the Rev. Michael
Ross coordinated the event. The local represents 114 Chaplains at the
Police, Fire and Corrections departments, the Health and Hospitals Corp.
and the Juvenile Justice division of the Administration for Children’s
Services.
“We shared our concerns with elected officials and got a briefing
on political issues that are important to public employees. It was also
an excellent opportunity for Chaplains from around the city to get together
and share their experiences,” Rowe-Adams said.
