The union mourns a labor lion

Former Local 768 President Darryl Ramsey passed away on Feb. 11. Ramsey was active with the local when appointed chief shop steward at Kings County Hospital. In 1997, he became a grievance rep and was elected president of the local in 2003, serving until 2008.

Ramsey believed the strength of the union depended on the active participation of the rank-and-file members.

Ramsey was an active member of the Coalition of Black Trade Unionists, an AFL-CIO constituency group, and the Save Our Safety Net Coalition.

He also enjoyed playing basketball and played in several recreational leagues in Brooklyn.

Darryl Ramsey is survived by his wife Sherry Boone-Ramsey and his children Regina, Eugene, Shameka, Renee and Karen, and his sister Josephine Ramsey.
