Delegates back Hillary Clinton for president

On March 29, at the DC 37 delegates meeting, the union's highest decision making body, endorsed former U.S. Sen. and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in her campaign for the White House.

"Hillary's career is always about a serious commitment to public service and fighting for others, especially children and families," said DC 37 Executive Director Henry Garrido.

Also speaking in support of Clinton's endorsement were Alma Roper, executive vice president of Local 1549, James Tucciarelli, president of Local 1320, and Local 1359 President Dennis Ifill, who chairs the union's Political Action Committee. "She has supported our members as a senator and has been an ally of labor, she deserves our endorsement," said Tucciarelli.

"Hillary Clinton is well known to our members and New Yorkers because she has been there for us when we needed her," Roper said.

The union also endorsed Clinton in her 2008 presidential bid and for her campaigns for the U.S. Senate, representing New York, until she served as secretary of state under President Barack Obama.

While senator, Clinton advocated for health-care coverage for first responders to the Sept. 11 attacks on the World Trade Center and helped secure $200 billion to help rebuild Lower Manhattan after the attacks.
