Library local president honored

By ALFREDO ALVARADO

VALENTIN COLON, president of New York Public Library Guild 1930, was the recipient of the first annual Impact Award presented by the Gay City News. The ceremony took place March 3 at the Grand Prospect Catering Hall in Brooklyn.

Colon was acknowledged for his 35 years of activism advocating for the gay community and union members.

"Our local was established on the principles that libraries are the backbone of democracy and unions are the vehicle to defend our economic rights," Colon said, noting that Local 1930 has been in the vanguard in the labor movement in its support for gay rights.
